Each year, VSS holds a Graphics Competition to collect creative visual images related to the field of vision science, the Society, or the VSS meeting. There are two competitions, the Website Banner Competition and the T-Shirt Design Competition. Winning graphic images are featured on the website, program, signage, and t-shirts.
The Vision Sciences Society is pleased to recognize Tasfia Ahsan as this year’s winner of the Website Banner Competition and Laura Soen of the T-Shirt Design Competition.
Website Banner Competition
Winner: Tasfia Ahsan, Freud Lab, York University, Canada

The website banner was inspired by my love of comic book-style art and the research we do at the Freud Lab on action and perception. I’ve always found it interesting how comic books can communicate so many things at once, movement, emotion, and narrative all on a single page. This feels connected to how the brain works, taking in and processing multiple streams of information simultaneously. The banner was my way of bringing those two ideas together.
T-Shirt Design Competition
Winner: Laura Soen, KU Leuven, Belgium

This t-shirt is more than conference merch. It’s a conversation starter. Zoom in with the magnifying glass and start discovering what VSS is all about and where you fit in. Do you study vision with EEG, FMRI, or neural networks? Is VR your tool of choice? Did you spot the dolphin in the ocean and will we see you at the beach BBQ by sunset? Each doodle captures a piece of the VSS experience: cutting-edge science, shared curiosity, spontaneous conversations, and the unmistakable setting of St. Pete’s Beach. Together, they visually map everything people love about VSS.
