Talk Sessions
Speaker Information
Each talk is 12 minutes followed by a 3 minute of
discussion period.
Each of the two ballrooms will be staffed with a
projectionist and equipped with a data/video projector and a projection screen. Presentations can be made
from your Mac or PC laptop. Each
video projector will be attached to a switch box so that up to 7 computers can
be left attached to the projector. A cable connected to the PA system will
also be provided for the playback of audio.
IMPORTANT: As a precaution, always bring 2 copies of your
presentation with you to the meeting.
Be sure to test the presentation before your session. We recommend that you arrive at the
Ballroom no less than 30 minutes before the start of your session.
Reminders:
- Your laptop must have a 15-pin female VGA output.
Many small laptops require an adapter cable for video output. If your
computer requires such an adapter, be sure to bring it and know how to use
it – otherwise, connection to the projector will be impossible.
- Set the output resolution to XGA (1024x768). This is
the native resolution of the video projectors in the auditoriums. Many
laptops have higher resolution, but use of higher resolutions for the
presentation risks the loss of information when the image is compressed to
XGA.
- Insure that you know how to activate the external
video port of the laptop. Instructions should be in your operator’s
manual. Generally on PCs, a Function Key (or Shift plus a Function Key)
activates the external port.
- If you use a Macintosh laptop, be sure you know how to
keep the external port active. Macintosh computers automatically detect the
presence of a video projector when the computer boots and the external port
is activated. Unfortunately, if the projector is disconnected while the
computer is awake, the port is de-activated and a time-consuming reboot is
necessary. To avoid this problem, test your presentation before your
session and, before disconnecting the projector from the computer, put the
computer into Sleep mode. If you do not wake the computer until the
projector is reattached, the external port will stay active.
- If your Mac requires an adapter cable for video
output, please bring one with you.
A technician will be present in each room, and a conference
staff person will check in regularly to make sure the talks are going smoothly.
Please bring any AV needs or problems at the conference to the registration
desk, and they will page our conference staff person.
