VSS 2009 Student Travel Awards
Each year VSS grants up to 20 Student Travel Awards to offset the cost of
attending the annual conference. Awards of $500 are given to eligible
students on a competitive basis.
Applications for the

October 16, 2008 and closed on Saturday, December 2, 2008. |

Guidelines for Applications
To be eligible for consideration, each applicant must be the first author of
a submitted abstract (both talks and poster presentations are eligible) and a
current 2009 student member of VSS. Past award recipients are ineligible. You must indicate that you are applying for a
Student Travel Fellowship when you submit your abstract.
Application Process
- Check the box indicating you are applying for a Student Travel Award
when you submit your abstract. (The abstract submission deadline is December 2, 2008, midnight latest time
zone on earth.)
- You (the applying student) must submit to Awards@visionsciences.org a single PDF file containing the
following information (an email address will be provided when applications
are open):

Personal Information -
Please include your Name, Affiliation, Email, Phone, Current degree program (BA/BSc,
MA/MSc, PhD), and Advisor's Name.

Abstract Information -
Please include the title of your submitted abstract and list all authors.

An Applicant's Statement -
In 250 words or less, please explain the significance and potential impact of
the research findings you plan to present at this year's VSS conference.

Curriculum Vitae - Include a
copy of your CV.
- Your advisor(s) must submit to Awards@visionsciences.org a separate Statement of Support addressing the
applicant's scientific and academic background, current and potential research
ability, as well as written and oral communication skills. The statement should
also include a description of the role played by the student in the work to be
presented at VSS.
Award Selection Process
Awards will be determined by the VSS Executive Board, based on an assessment
of the applicant's submission, the supervisor's statement, and on the scientific merit of
the work to be presented. All competing abstracts will be scored by the Abstract Review Committee.
Winners will be selected in January and notified and posted to the website in February.
